Church essay called Race and the Priesthood

Have you read the Church essay called Race and the Priesthood? What used to be doctrine taught by prophets and president's of the church as the command and will of the Lord, is now called theories advanced in the past.
"Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form." - LDS Church Race and the Priesthood
When my father-in-law served a mission in Louisiana, he and his entire mission were told not to teach the gospel to blacks. If a black answered the door they asked, "Are the folks home?" To find out if white people owned the house. He would laugh telling the story of how one black man responded, "I is the folks." To which he had to reply "Thank you very much. " And he and his companion turned and left. Salvation was not administered or available to the "folks" for years based on the color of their skin and because of church policy.
Here are a few quotes that are now rejected by the church as the theories of men.
Brigham Young: "“Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so. The nations of the earth have transgressed every law that God has given, they have changed the ordinances and broken every covenant made with the fathers, and they are like a hungry man that dreameth that he eateth, and he awaketh and behold he is empty." - Journal of Discourses, Vol 10 p 110
Brigham Young in Joint Session of the Legislature, January 23, 1852: "I will remark with regard to slavery, inasmuch as we believe in the Bible, inasmuch as we believe in the ordinances of God, in the Priesthood and order and decrees of God, we must believe in slavery. This colored race have been subjected to severe curses, which they have in their families and their classes and in their various capacities brought upon themselves. And until the curse is removed by Him who placed it upon them, they must suffer under its consequences; I am not authorized to remove it. I am a firm believer in slavery."
